Do you know that being too addicted to your smartphone is a kind of phobia? Nomophobia is the short form of "No Mobile Phone Phobia" which describes a psychological condition of being afraid of loosing or being separated from ones phone. The term 'NOMOPHOBIA' was coined by the United Kingdom (UK)Post Office during a study who commissioned YouGov, a UK based research organization.
This condition is common among almost 80 percent of teens and young adults and old people above the age of 55 years of age.
The fast growing of technology in the world is seen to be the main cause of nomophobia. Though technological advancement is no bad thing but addiction to smartphones especially, has become a rising problem and the need to limit this phobia.
Common symptoms include anxiety, tachycardia, disorientation, agitation, respiratory alterations, trembling and perspiration.
Nomophobia is not a medically mental condition but an addiction so the best treatment is the "do away your phone therapy". This is by taking breaks from your phone for sometime each day. One can also engage in activities such as reading printed books watching television or engaging in craft, being busy can help take break away from your phone.
Effects may include increase in heart rate and blood pressure, shortness of breath, panic, fear, discomfort, anxiety, trembling, nausea and dizziness.
The day to day activities of the modern world mostly relies on technology and smartphones are very useful but the rate of addiction needs to be limited since it can not be abolished.
